Our Emerging Neighbourhood Plan -
You may know that we reached a critical stage in the development of our Neighbourhood Plan, getting to the stage of final consultation with North Somerset Council. We have discovered that since we sit in an area of total Green Belt then we cannot use a plan like this to control or influence future development or developers. Thus the plan would have no status and would be ignored.
We had planned to assess potential sites in Portbury that have been registered with North Somerset for housing. From that we aimed to comment on suitability and also to stipulate our aims if any development were to occur. We were going to consult with residents during this process.
Given the position we find ourselves in, we decided to take advantage of Government funding support to indepenently assess the sites we know about, and to put them alongside the aims of the Parish as expressed in our previous surveys.
The resulting report is available here - and will now be used to complete a slightly different document that brings together all the strands of work that have been done. This will then be a start point for those in the future that might be able to pick up and complete the Neighbourhood Plan as originally envisaged.
Bristol Port Company still propose to expand their operations into Shipway Farm on Sheepway. They own this land and have provided this briefing document about their proposals. Covid has intervened in this project and at present we don't know when it might become live again. The latest version of their proposals are available through the link below.
