Portbury Parish Council

Welcome to Portbury **latest news**View of Conygar Hill

Portbury is a quiet little village with its own rich heritage sitting near the head of the Gordano Valley. We are near to both Portishead and Bristol and yet sit in the countryside with a wide range of outdoor opportunities.

The Village HallFor those who want to seek refreshment after a short, or long walk through our network of footpaths you can pay a visit to the Priory Inn, or just sit a while and enjoy our village green. In the evening you may be able to visit our Social Club, in the Village Hall, and chat to locals who have been here for a while and will tell you a few tales.

The Parish is part of the North Somerset Authority, represented on North Somerset Council by one Councillor. Facebook LogoOur population was last recorded as 827 living in some 450 residences. We are a very active community and people keep in touch with news, events, traffic and just odd happenings by using our Public Noticeboard on Facebook. Anyone can join and many ex residents still keep in touch.

Each yeA Bluebellar we are fortunate to have a magnificent display of Bluebells in Prior's Wood, an Avon Wildlife Trust site. Many footpaths criss-cross the beautifully leafy valleys and in early May there are breath-taking glimpses of vast blue carpets of flowers that just demand a photograph. Residents run a refreshment stall each weekend during the annual bloom and here you can sample delicious home-made cakes to recharge your batteries.

Many walks are possible from Portbury including strolls to other nearby pubs. You can do a number of circular walks of up to 7 miles through the undulating countryside stretching up to Failand. For the more ardent hikers it’s possible to complete the Gordano Valley Round, taking in Cadbury Camp along the way.  You’ll be amazed at the wealth of wildlife along the way.

Portbury is definitely worth a visit; better still it’s a great place to live.
